Desi Linden shows incredible sportsmanship in winning Boston Marathon

Miles before Desi Linden made history by winning the Boston Marathon, she didn't think she'd even finish the 26.2-mile race. 

So she was more than willing to help Shalane Flanagan, her friend and competitor, try to win. 

When Flanagan, the 2017 New York Marathon champion, darted into a Porta Potty just a couple miles into the race, Linden decided she'd slow up, wait for Flanagan and help her catch the lead pack. 

"Honestly at mile 2, 3, 4 I didn’t feel like I was gonna even make it to the finish line," Linden said in an interview after her victory. "I told her (Flanagan) in the race, I said if there’s anything I can do to help you out, let me know because I might just drop out.

"When you work together you never know what's going to happen," Linden said. "Helping her helped me and kind of got my legs back from there."
