Wally Kroeker
MEDA's Former Director of Publications, The Marketplace editor, and author
From 1985 until his retirement this past summer, Wally Kroeker was MEDA’s director of publications and editor of its magazine, The Marketplace.
Wally Kroeker spent two-thirds of his working life as editor of MEDA’s Marketplace magazine (“Where Christian faith gets down to business”). For nearly 32 years he looked forward to Monday mornings, taking special joy in helping readers see their daily work – whether in a factory, office or executive desk – as a ministry, a place to be God’s junior partners in the task of sustaining creation; and helping mobilize the resources and skill-sets of supporters to create business solutions to global poverty. He believes firmly that robust faith values provide structural girders to support lasting economic hope for people in poverty. He is grateful to MEDA for serving as a spiritual/professional home for the transforming integration of faith, business and economic development.
Wally began his journalistic career in 1967 with the Regina Leader-Post, later working for the Saskatchewan Business Journal, Winnipeg Tribune and The Christian Leader (a Mennonite Brethren magazine) before coming to MEDA in 1985. He has a BA in religious studies from Tabor College, Hillsboro, Kan., and an MA in theology from the Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary, Fresno, Calif. His books include God’s Week has Seven Days: Monday Musings for Marketplace Christians; Faith Dilemmas for Marketplace Christians (with Ben Sprunger and Carol Suter); An Introduction to the Russian Mennonites; and an online career guide, You’re Hired! Looking for work in all the right places (available for free download on MEDA’s website).
Wally and his wife, Millie, live in Winnipeg, where he spends as much time as possible following baseball, cooking five-alarm chili and doting on his grandchildren.
