An alumna and longtime adviser of Pennsylvania College of Technology’s hospitality department has established a scholarship to benefit students pursuing careers in the same field.

The Diane L. Dorner Scholarship will benefit first- and second-year students in several of Penn College’s hospitality-related majors: culinary arts and systems, culinary arts technology, hospitality management, and business administration: sport and event management concentration.

Dorner graduated from Williamsport Area Community College, Penn College’s immediate predecessor, in 1979 with an associate degree in food and hospitality management. She is district manager for Carrols LLC, a Burger King franchisee that operates more than 700 restaurants in 16 states.

Dorner is a longtime member of the college’s Hospitality Advisory Committee. In 2007, she received the college’s Alumni Citizenship/Humanitarian Award for her work to implement a variety of programs with her previous employer, AML Development Corp., to provide assistance to those in need.

“I am happy that I am able to give back to Penn College, which was instrumental in steering me into my career in the food service industry,” said Diane Dorner. “The food and hospitality program has grown so much, and it gives me pleasure to help someone that is pursuing this career.”

“Diane has been an advocate for our hospitality programs with her employers for a number of years,” said Robb Dietrich, executive director of the Penn College Foundation. “We’re pleased she has now chosen to continue that support by personally establishing a named scholarship. Penn College is extremely grateful to Diane for her generosity.”

Those interested in contributing to the Diane L. Dorner Scholarship or establishing a scholarship fund can send a donation to the Penn College Foundation, One College Avenue, Williamsport, PA 17701; give online; or call the Institutional Advancement Office toll-free at 866-GIVE-2-PC (866-448-3272).

Students who wish to apply for any of the more than 200 scholarships administered by the Penn College Foundation should complete the online application.
