Description

Updated with 2022-2023 Regs

B.C. Moose Tracker is an official Government of British Columbia app that allows hunters to play an important part in moose conservation and management.

The app lets users upload information on the number, sex and location of moose they encounter in the wild directly to a provincewide database. The data will help the Province monitor moose populations by alerting staff to emerging issues.

B.C. Moose Tracker supports government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the provincial moose management strategy through the modernization of licensing, inventory and research methods.

As an added bonus, the app includes a digital version of 2016-2018 Hunting & Trapping Regulations Synopsis. It’s an indispensable summary of hunting seasons and regulations throughout B.C. – including interactive maps.

The Province developed B.C. Moose Tracker in consultation with the BC Wildlife Federation and with the financial support of the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation.

A daily reminder that I haven’t been moose hunting today. Big sad.

A daily reminder that I haven’t been moose hunting today.

Pro-tip: turn off the audio reminder! There are few situations in which is isn’t embarrassing to have a horny moose noise coming from your pocket.

Great idea!

I would like to see this done with elk and mule deer as well. Elk population is lower in region 4 and mule deer is gradually increasing again. There should be no open season or LEH for either of them for a few years. Let the population grow.

Relies on public having app

I expected this app to report locations of moose ESPECIALLY if they are near highways.
I’ve seen the devastation of a moose vehicle impact.

All I wanted from the app was to run in the background and alert me if I was within 5 kms of a tracked collared moose (raised immediate awareness)

Permanently mounted reporting stations with a solar panel along the highway (on a fence post is good enough) to update the database where all 2 or 3 publicly sighted and reported moose are.

Room for improvement on this app is massive

I know, Apple AirTag them
