The MHP Giving Tree is the name used to recognize the group of employees who make annual contributions to the MHP Foundation. They recently just completed their goal of raising $100,000 each year for five years!

This year, we used those funds for something very special to MHP employees. The Foundation asked for proposals from staff for projects that meet at least three of the five MHP Pillars of Excellence:

· Delivering quality clinical outcomes

· Providing a quality customer experience

· Recruiting, developing, & retaining quality people

· Applying quality financial practices

· Promoting and embracing enterprise wide growth

The MHP Medical Center is an amazing facility that facilitates care, but the staff members inside are the heart of the organization. These employee-inspired projects help our staff do an even better job of caring for Shelby County patients.

MHP Maternity: Safe Sleep, $1,750 granted

The safe sleep initiative provides a cribette to babies who do not have a safe place to sleep. At the postpartum home visit, the nurse is able to give the cribette immediately at no cost to the family.

35 cribettes were purchased with this grant, and it also allowed the MHP Maternity Care Department to move up from the National Safe Sleep Certification of a Safe Sleep Leader to a Safe Sleep Champion.

MHP Maternity: Baby & Me Tobacco Free, $7,500 granted

This program is an incentive-based tobacco use cessation program. Since its implementation, MHP Maternity has seen great success with many of the mothers remaining smoke-free one year after their baby is born.

The MHP Maternity Care Department’s work in infant safe sleep and maternal tobacco use prevention and cessation recently earned the status of “INspire Hospital of Distinction” for MHP. The INspire award is from the Indiana Hospital Association in partnership with Governor Eric Holcomb and State Health Commissioner Kris Box, M.D., FACOG. The award recognizes hospitals for excellence in addressing key drivers of infant and maternal health. MHP received the award based on the MHP maternity department’s implementation of best practices in five key areas, including infant safe sleep and maternal tobacco use prevention and cessation—the same areas supported in part by contributions to the MHP Foundation.

MHP Internal Medicine: Blood Pressure, $2,300 granted

Family and Internal Medicine implemented a loaner blood pressure cuff program to help towards their efforts of reducing hypertension. Patients with high blood pressure can borrow these cuffs after receiving education on blood pressure management. Along with these tools, patients also receive follow-up calls with the Blood Pressure Champion. Blood pressure improvement rates have reached 30% or above month after month since May 2021.

MHP Pediatrics: Reach Out & Read, $12,980 granted

This evidence-based program provides an age-appropriate book for children between 6 months-5 years old at each well-child visit at MHP Pediatrics. This program has been funded since May 2019, and has been proven to promote success in school.

MHP Oncology: Memorial Wall, $22,930 granted

This display wall will commemorate the fight each oncology patient goes through during their illness and treatment. The treatment completion bell, display screen, and encouraging quote are forthcoming
